Friday smile - my mad half hour

 Good morning all!
I was just pegging out my washing (yes, I am an old fashioned girl who likes to peg out and doesn't own a tumble drier)
Its a lovely warm breezy day so why not!

So - my pegs were in a plastic bag and I decided it was high time I made a new peg bag for them.

I nipped up to my sewing room pulled out a remnant of my grey pound shop bargain ( H & M Home curtains - pure cotton, grey check and used for all sorts of little crafty projects over the years). I added a scrap left over from my kitchen blind.
Half an hour later and voila - my new peg bag!
It almost looks too nice for a peg bag.
BUT - its strong and practial AND matches my kitchen - perfect!

I was chuckling to myself as I made it.
Our Grandma (who lived to be 100) was a wonderful seamstress and we inherit her genes I guess.
This week Annie posted pictures of little Lexi sewing her dolly.
Yesterday Maxine was busy making a gorgeous little book for Ben.

How Grandma would have loved to see the talent still running through her family.
She loved to see what we youngsters were up to. I even made several dresses for her when she was in her nineties and I was a textile craft student.
Lovely memories of a wonderful lady.

Have a great weekend all and if you want a few more smiles hop over to Annie's "A stitch in time" blog.

x Jo

  1. We were certainly very blessed to have had such a special Grandma in our lives who left us such a wonderful legacy and there isn't a day that goes by that we don't think of her Jo. She would be so very proud of us all.

  3. Aaawwwwh! That's so lovely and I really do think that talent and skills passes down genetically. You and Annie have certainly inherited bundles, yards and baskets of it!

  5. I hate to disagree with you gals, but my grandmother was a genuine seamstress. She made all my clothes until I entered high school, when I no longer wanted home made clothes because I had a job. She made the most incredible, show quality quilts. I can't sew a straight line, tear all my scrappy journal covers, and would NEVER be able to use a pattern for anything, since I eyeball everything. So, I may have gotten her "smarts" (both she and my great aunt were well educated), but I didn't get her sewing genes.

Having said that, I simply adore your peg bag (we call pegs clothes pins in the US). I hang all my clothes on my line in summer because I have vented my dryer into the house, where it heats the back rooms and office in winter. So that bag put a genuine smile on my face.

  6. Pegging washing out is one of my simple pleasures in life....I love doing it. There's nothing better than to see washing blowing on the line :-). And while I've made many peg bags, I don't use one myself. My pegs are in a plastic ice cream tub on the ground. I reckon I get some exercise bending and stretching!!

  7. My Grandma was a seamstress and made quite a few of mine and my sisters clothes and we inherited her love of sewing. Must admit I don't own a peg bag. Love the row of birds on yours. Hugs Mrs A.

  8. I peg the washing out on a good day but it does go in the dryer on a wet day. I love your bag. I made mine from a FQ hubby bought me in a little shop we visited in Germany. My sister sewed her own wedding dress and my mother her mother of the bride dress for the wedding. I am not as skilled as that but I do enjoy sewing and making jewellery.

  9. Loving your peg bag. Those birdies look super. I am with you on the old fashioned hanging washing out. I have a washer tumbler but hardly ever tumble.
It must be the season to make new peg bags. I am just stitching the binding onto the one I have made, using an old pair of Hubby's jeans. I do so wish he had not used bondaweb for the hems though, tough to stitch through! I made a pinnieon from the jeans too I kid you not!!
There are sewing genes in my family too! My Great Aunt actually stitched on one of the Royal's trousseau years ago!!
    Hugs

  10. Hi Jo, ow what a lovely story...just love your quick handywork with the peg bag, could do with one myself...so that could be on the 'to do' list. We're are sewers in our family too, our daughter doesn't do too badly and I'm hoping to influence little Sophie one day. A very big thank you for your gorgeous ATC and card that arrived this week...I love it. Cheers, hugs and have a great weekend Robyn
