WOYWW - green tartan dyeing!

So - World Book day is coming up and it seems that Katie Morag is a popular character for children to dress up as, this year.
I had a little bit of polycotton fabric which I made up and showed you last week. Here.
It was perfect for a little green tartan dressing up skirt.
However, it is very hard to find any suitable green tartan.
Not to be out done - I found some cream /vaguely green tartan viscose online and decided to dye it....

One old pan and green fingers later.....

It won't be anywhere near as nice as the other one but I am sure it will look good just the same.
So this week I shall be mostly sewing little green tartan kilts!

Of course, my table is already full.
I have been helping Maxine sort out wool yarns and rovings for her needle felting course.
Lots for you to snoop today.

Have a great week.
Thanks for calling.
If you want to join in our WOYWW blog hop then nip over to Julia's blog and link up.

  1. It looks like the cabbage soup turined out well :-) In all my fabric I've not found anything in green check...can you believe that?
    Have a great week.

  2. That is incredibly clever of you to die, so successfully, some cream fabric.
Best wishes for Maxine and her felting course, look forward to seeing some of her makes.

  5. Lovely wool tops there, Jo. Hope the course is great. Your tartan looks very suitable - I remember one of our grandies being dressed up very similarly.
    Take care. God bless.

  6. Wow that is fantastic!! As a librarian I am intrigued by the Katy Morag ref - I love the books, but they are getting rather old and I am having to reluctantly remove some of them for newer stuff - is she really still that popular? The books don't seem to go out here. Happy WOYWW Cindy #36

  8. Well that is one sure way of fixing the green problem, make your own, clever. Now I am interested to see how they come out in the end, so I will stay posted. Green is my favorite colour. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful week.

  12. Oh some bright green...would be fun to have that grass here, just frightfully cold and windy. Also must be a week of sorting out for most of us. I finished up all my lace and gained new space. Enjoy a lovely week.

  15. They turned out rather well I think. I admit I had to google Katie Morag as I'd never heard of her but you've got the skirt spot-on! Are they for your grandies or are you going to sell them?
A needle felting course sounds very interesting. I'm sure Maxine will love it.
    Have a great week,
    God bless,

  19. Thanks so much for your comment, sorry only just replying after having a visit from the Curly Girlies.
What a job dyeing all that fabric but it will be worth while. The Katie moral costumes and dolls are such a success.
Thanks for the offer, you are too kind, but we do have quilts in hand and not so many are needed just now. All children in the system have received them and so they are only needed for newcomers.
If I dare ask, Bravery Bead bags are in short supply if you have any spare fabric they would be sooo appreciated, even a few. I've been stitching away on my ownsome!
    Love Jo x

  20. We loved the Katie stories in this house, I especially loved that little bit of friction between the two grannies! Can't wait to see the costume. I also loved your gorgeous chicken roman blind, your friend must have been delighted which it x
