Finished by Friday and a smile.

Just a couple of photos of my white bunting that I finished this week.
It is made with 7 flags of vintage linen decorated with vintage lace/crochet/embroidery and my own hand embroidery stitches.
It is attached to 3 metres of white tape so is just enough to go across the top of a double bed and fasten securely at each side.
Here is a close up of one of the flags . There are several different flag designs.

I shall probably pop it in our blog shop (Sisters Crafty Creations) later - maybe in the wedding section.

Now for my happy story.
It certainly made me smile.

Yesterday evening, just as I started eating my tea, a young woodpecker (probably the one I showed you last week on my fence!) flew into my window. I think it was being chased by the sparrow hawk.
It tumbled down and landed right outside my patio door and lay panting, wings outstretched.
Then the panting stopped and it was still.
I was sure it was dead.
I know you are supposed to just leave birds in shock alone so, I just kept an eye on it whilst I had my tea.
It lay completely still, spread out across the patio.
About half an hour later, as by now I was conviced it was dead, I thought I would go and have a look at its beautiful feathers, take a photo to show Annie and then dispose of the little body.
Imagine my shock - as I opened the door-  it took off and flew to nearest oak tree chirping away as it went!!
A little miracle I am sure. I was so glad to know it was alive and well and had not been another casualty of the hawk or my windows!!

There now I bet you are smiling too!!

For more smile, pop over to Annie's blog " A Stitch in Time"

Have a great weekend.
x Jo

  1. how strange, do you think it was playing dead in case the sparrowhawk came back? Glad it survived though i cant bear to think of birds being hurt by other animals.
    Very smily story Jo.

  2. I read, only today, about a Kingfisher who flew into a window and had brain bruising! He was treated by an animal sanctuary and released. Probably the same for your woodpecker...

  3. I'm sure they play dead while they recover just in case so I'm thrilled it made a good recovery....I'm sure it learnt an important lesson or two :-)
Love the bunting and know it looks so much better in real life too :-)

  4. Sometimes birds fly into our windows and are stunned. I usually leave them for a while but the trouble is that we have farm cats, so sometimes I pick them up and put them on the bird table to recover. I read somewhere that greater spotted woodpeckers are in short supply but they certainly aren't round here as we have two or three families that come to our peanuts.

  5. Oh great result! Our conservatory is festooned with 'stuff' to tryto prevent the birdies hotting the windows, its always such a sickening thud, i hate it.

  8. The bunting is beautiful and such a good idea to make from vintage fabrics. The story of woody woodpecker is so sweet! Glad he survived! I was wondering what happened to the egg sitting pheasant from a while ago ... did the eggs hatch?. I must have missed the follow up with all my travels.

  10. the bunting is beautiful

Glad the woodpecker is OK. We've been passing a woodpecker nest on the school run each day and hearing the babies chirping away calling for food.

  11. My Mom used to put little birds into an open shoebox when they got injured and dazed flying into a big window at home....and now I do the same...it gives them some protection til they come around.... so far...I have watched them all fly away... after waking up dazed in the box...I'm glad your little guy made it....
