It was such a sunny afternoon that I decided to take my latest car boot bargain outside and set it all out on my patio table.
We found a wooden wine box with about 28 reels of  thread inside - along with a tape measure, a tinful of buttons, and some useful needles. DH decided he would use the wooden box for storage so he paid most of the £3 that it cost. Bargain!!!!
I also picked up another bag with more threads for next to nothing so I am a happy bunny!!!
I will be adding them to my thread store - they will all be useful I am sure.

The best thing about living on the edge of the open countryside is the wonderful birdlife that I can watch from my kitchen window.
Below is the best picture that I could take of the pair of Bullfinches in my garden this morning.
The male is on the fence and the female is below in the bottom left hand corner - a drab little bird by comparison.

If you are interested in my resident pheasant then scroll down for the news and photos!!!
I spotted her in the field today with at least 5 of her chicks so they are surviving.

I have been busy this week packing my ATCs into envelopes ready for our WOYWW 4th anniversary swap.
If you wonder what this is all about, then follow this link to find out more.

If you think you would like to swap ATCs with me then email:
twiglet517@hotmail.co.uk with your details.

OK folks, that's it for now.
Thanks for calling in. Have a great week.
x Jo

Lovely pic of the bull finches....they're little so and so's for pulling apple tree blossom off though!

  7. Great car boot find Jo - a girl can never have too many threads and buttons ( last week I had to dig into my stash for fabric scraps and buttons for my GS who was making a giant postcard at school. He told me that he'd had to use my fabrics to collage some people ) Good to hear the chicks are surviving. Happy WOYWW

  8. Aw, the pheasant and her chicks..not so dumb then! We've got teeny tiny partridges by the workshop at the mo...it's a ground nest and we worry about them..cats. They are just like little blobs of fur with legs! Loving the score at the boot sale - only you would think that a lifetime's worth of thread for anyone else would be worth 'adding' to your stash!!

  11. wow didn't you do well at the car boot sale but I have to say I would have fought the DH a little harder for the wooden storage box.

  12. Wowzer, that is a fabulous find at the boot sales, especially if DH paid for most of it! LOL It always makes me smile to think that male birds are the ones with all the colour and the females are dull.
I would love to swap an ATC with you... will email you my addy! Annette #23

  13. Why do I see all these bargains on blogs but never find any myself. Must walk around with blinkered vision I guess. Great shop!
Love the bird pictures, wish we had more species of birds near to us - once saw a woodpecker in the garden but never since. Would have loved hi to take up residence.

Thanks for sharing and visiting me - Hugs, neet 2 xx

  23. Great haul from the car boot! The Bullfinch is gorgeous and so is the Pheasant and family, we live next to a mill pond but the best we get is a Canada Goose with her offspring (but they are quite sweet really). Happy WOYWW, Anne x #54

  24. Hi Twiglet, I have popped over to see you from Heather's site (Ragged Old Blogger) because I saw your comment about pheasant chicks. We farm in Wensleydale and have had a hen pheasant bring off twelve chicks just under the landing window in our front garden. She kept them there for a couple of days and this morning my husband saw her in the paddock next to the farmhouse - there was a clear trail leading from the garden showing where she had gone. Which part of the country do you live in? That hill looks familiar but don't know where it is. Do pop over and see me some time.

  29. Hi Jo, sorry I missed last week, accounts are sucking the life and time out of me at the moment. But almost done and shall be sent next week at last lol. Thanks for your address I can't wait to swap :-). Those threads are gorgeous I really need to go car booting. Might have a look this weekend. I am really starting to get into sewing (well on paper and stamping lol) and I love looking at all the wonderful threads :-) but I am so loving the pastels you picked up. 31. I've got thread envy. I like to use different colors of thread when I make my scrappy journals. The more thread colors I have, the happier I am. You are SO lucky. Any mixed media artist would be in hog heaven with that bounty. To think it was all "wasted" on a seamstress (GRIN).

    Happy WOYWW from #10.

  34. Hi Jo, I have spent ages on your blog today following the story of your pheasant the development of the eggs and chicks, what lovely reading thanks ever so much for this. You are so lucky to live with views like that, my best view is a main road and the rumble of the M6 200 yrds away lol! One of my favourite weekend pastimes is car boot sales, so I can understand your joy in finding a useful bargain great find. Hugs Mox #60

  35. Thanks for the return visit - I do know the area where you live as I taught in Wolverhampton for some years and we used to holiday in Wales a lot and also walk in the lovely Shropshire countryside on Sunday afternoons. I shall now attempt for the second time to put you on my side bar!

  37. We like to watch our birds, too. We were sad when a nest got accidentally uncovered when my husband was moving some firewood from beside our garage. The bird had built it rather precariously between two stacks of wood and there wasn't a good way to cover it up again. We think all the eggs were lost and the one helpless hatchling, too. Glad there was a happier ending to your pheasant story! Happy WOYWW (and thanks for visiting) ~ Laura #107
