Just spotted this baby woodpecker and its mum on my fence.
I love this time of the year but so does the sparrow hawk!
Within five minutes of taking this picture there was a beautiful male hawk sitting in exactly the same spot - I don't think he had been quick enough to take this baby but I am sure there are plenty more fledglings around that he will be whisking away in no time!
Have a good weekend.
x Jo
What a fab pic Jo.

That is a wonderful picture! Thanks for sharing. Caro x (#11)
ReplyDeleteMy sentiments exactly Twiglet. We get the sparrow hawk through at least once a day - he doesn't always get something but it is a quite frequent occurrence. Babies are so vulnerable because they haven't really learned the ropes have they.
ReplyDeleteIt's the same with baby rabbits and our farm cats - it is so sad.
Aren't they so beautiful and I wish nature didn't intervene and send those hawks to take them as prey. I've watched it and it really is horrendous.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt os really gorgeous , bright and attractive. I look forward to seeing it. I'll be back to making pretty soon myself now my travels are over until the new babe arrives. Will have to talk soon about the quilt I'm commissioning or HIM!!!
Love Jo x
Awww, well done on catching the little one. Mummy Woodpecker has been to our feeders but didn't bring her little ones to visit.
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a lovely weekend.

Great snapshot. We have a kite that circles over our house on a thermal most days. Fourtunately have never seen him swoop for any prey he may have spotted on the ground. Hugs Mrs A.
